Avia worked for several years as a technical "firefighter"
for a financial consulting firm and an operations associate
for a Wall Street brokerage house before joining America Online
in 1995. As a Senior Account Executive and later as Director
of Programming in the AOL Greenhouse she helped partners find
their audience, continuously improve their content offerings,
and effectively use industry research to neutralize their
competitors. In 1997 she embraced the challenge of creating
online sites, managing their content and working on financial
deals first as a Senior Creative Programming Manager for AOL's
Electra then as a Product Manager for AOL's Digital City.
Avia received her MBA from the Darden Graduate School of
Business Administration at the University of Virginia in 1994.
She graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County
with a degree in Information Systems Management in 1986. Avia
is a board member for a foundation that helps bright kids
attain financial help and mentoring while they attend the
top universities. She also volunteers her talents at Rachel's
Women's Center an organization that assists women in overcoming
many of life's challenges.
