Avia Borders Director, National Accounts

Prior to Avia’s entry in America Online in 1995, she worked as a technical "firefighter" for a financial consulting firm and an operations associate for a Wall Street brokerage house. She joined AOL as a Senior Account Executive. She later became the Director of Programming in the AOL Greenhouse where she helped partners find their audience, continuously improve their content offerings, and effectively use industry research to neutralize their competitors. It was in 1997 that she embraced the challenge of creating online sites, managing their content and working on financial deals first as a Senior Creative Programming Manager for AOL's Electra then as a Product Manager for AOL's Digital City.

Avia earned her MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration of the University of Virginia in 1994. Her undergraduate degree is in Information Systems Management. She graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1986. Avia is currently a board member of a foundation assisting bright kids through financial help and mentoring to be able to attend top universities. She is also a volunteer of the Rachel's Women's Center, an organization that assists women to overcome challenges.
